Thanks to its broad hardware power, Rockstar promises a lot of new features. In addition to a full 60 frames per second and a Full HD resolution, an enlarged animal world and denser traffic beckon. How good the PC version of GTA V is? Well, you can read all right here in our review.

Story and Gameplay

Grand Theft Auto V was already allowed to show on four platforms. Since the end of 2013 it has migrated from the LastGen, via the NextGen to the PC. By the way, no part of the main series has so far poorly performed. GTA V takes the series to the next level once again.

For the first time in Grand Theft Auto V, we play three characters at the same time: This has never happened in any part of the series before. Not only can we always switch between the three protagonists Michael, Franklin, and Trevor: The story is also impressively presented on the PC in three storylines at the same time, which become more and more closely interwoven in the course of the story.

Rockstar Games delivers a gangster story par excellence. The fifth title brings quite cool moments in many places. The robberies that eventually arrived in GTA Online’s multiplayer are also present in the singleplayer. It gives you goosebumps until the final. The dramaturgy of a Grand Theft Auto V is by far the best in the whole series and proves once again that rock star can increase by one more with every new GTA title.

In addition to the successful story, Rockstar North implemented many playful elements in the fifth part of the series, which further expanded the freedom of the player. With golf, darts, tennis and triathlons, players can make their virtual leisure time in Los Santos multifaceted.

Resident Evil 7
God of War
Far Cry 5

Also, there are good secondary missions and even a dynamic equity system. Rockstar Games has realized that freedom works, but did not force – and quickly banished the fitness mania of a GTA: San Andreas. An exciting innovation followed on the NextGen consoles. For the first time, you can play a GTA V from an ego-perspective.

Both in the car and at the gun, the game world from the eyes of the protagonists is as close as never before. Of course, it’s also possible on the PC.

Not to mention GTA Online. There was no comparable multiplayer in any part of the series. Rockstar quickly understood after GTA IV how fun the free mode sessions could be. And that’s why GTA Online has built a variety of aspects around Free Mode: Own apartments, multiple customization options, a consistent gaming experience.

Numerous varied missions, races, and deathmatches followed. Grand Theft Auto Online is a parallel world. Practical: The online character can also be imported from other platforms on the PC, provided the same Social Club account is registered.

Fortunately, little has changed in the PC version. As expected, the latest version of GTA V is mainly a graphical upgrade – and a hymn of praise to the PC. Sooner or later, every GTA worth mentioning came to the PC and reached its optimal form.

It is of course due to the massive computing power available, from which Rockstar Games can get the best result. Rockstar Games wanted to offer something unique to PC gamers: A 4K resolution. Incorporating the extremely high resolution was a fun challenge for developers of Rockstar Games.

For almost every player, however, the possibility of running the game in a Full HD resolution and at 60 frames per second is intriguing. The high frame rate of 60fps is becoming popular in more and more games. Recently in Battlefield: Hardline and Dark Souls 2.

Thanks to the high frame rate, GTA V is no exception on the PC and offers a smooth and crisp image. Mainly thanks to the high texture quality the game cuts a good figure. But also the lighting and particle effects conjure up beautiful moments on the screen in the winding city center and the large county.

Each player can decide for himself. The configuration menu is expansive. It has a total of 27 graphics options. Including visibility, texture quality – and even traffic density. If you wanted to combine the most beautiful graphics with a stable frame rate, you often had to experiment with the various graphics settings.

Rockstar wants to change that and takes the player’s hand. Grand Theft Auto V displays the remaining memory of the graphics card in the graphics menu. The graphics card is recognized, and each set compared with the available memory. In this way, the effects of any graphical changes you can see directly. The menu shows the performance with the settings.

Game Requirements

The system requirements for GTA V are acceptable and suitable for most of today’s systems. If you own a quad-core CPU with 2.4 GHz each and at least one NVIDIA 9800 GT¬†or AMD HD 4870, you have a ticket to Los Santos. If you play with the Intel Core i5 or AMD X8 FX-8350 with an NVIDIA GTX 660 or AMD HD7870, the sharp textures flicker across the screen in 60fps.

Even mid-range systems can cope with the demands and enjoy the smooth 60fps. Some graphics cards sometimes let the frame rate drop to 10-20 frames per second. But the manufacturers are already behind. For affected AMD graphics cards, there is already a beta driver that raises the frame rate to a constant 45-60fps.

If you want to get the most out of Grand Theft Auto V and let your crate smoke, try the 4K mode. To pack the extremely high-resolution setting and run it at 30fps, at least the recommended requirements are required: a graphics card with 2GB.

For a smooth 60 frames per second with 4K resolution, you need to run two high-end graphics cards at the same time – and of course, have an appropriate monitor. It’s to Rockstar’s credit that they think long term and have already integrated such an option.

But already in Full HD, GTA V shows its splendor: it is as soft as butter, crisp and beautifully illuminated. With such a beautiful picture, it’s hard not to think of the PC as the perfect home for GTA V. Los Santos never looked better. If you’ve played every generation of the game so far, the fascination flattens out at some point – but the grandiose scenery makes up for that.

The control with mouse and keyboard does Grand Theft Auto V a big favor. Especially the firefights are now much more precise. The shots on the consoles mainly aiming at supporting Auto-Aim. They can now be sunk unerringly with the mouse thanks to precise control.

You can see it also in the online deathmatches, which are now much more fun on the mouse. But even the steering on foot and tires is easy to handle. Only minor actions like calling the mobile phone have changed to the right side of the keyboard.

A little treat for the PC version is the Rockstar Editor. It allows players to create PC-exclusively their films with an in-game material. In return, the game offers a director mode. The more you progress in the story, the more characters you unlock for your movie.

Among them are also some fun extras. Now you can create different scenes in the game and make movies from them. Including settings for weather and even gravity. It works surprisingly well and finally also provides GTA V with a useful movie tool.

GTA V offers mainly graphical improvements on the PC. 60 frames per second, a 4K resolution and an enormous range of vision bring out the best in Rockstar’s gold donkey. But also funny things have changed. Dense traffic, a comic director mode, and the precise control set the PC version apart from a simple port.

In the third implementation, GTA V has reached the PC and thus a high playful and graphics quality. And that’s not all: We can be curious what to expect for mods in the future. Fans of the series and patient players with an appropriate system should choose the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.
