A new encryption Trojan is currently making trouble. It will encrypt any file on your desktop and change the extensions of the affected files to”.PUBG” – the abbreviation for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds. And this connection is no coincidence.

Usually, such Trojans can only be enticed to make your files accessible again for money, mostly Bitcoin. However, this ransomware is different. It invites affected users to play Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds. Allegedly the decryption of the files starts after one hour of playtime. In reality, the malware begins decrypting the data after just three seconds.

Also, it is not checked precisely whether Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is played. Only a process with the name “Tslgame.exe” is searched. You can also rename another application accordingly. If this is too time-consuming for you, you can also just use the supplied key to restore the data.

So the Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds-Ransomware can be classified as a pure joke. It makes it the second malware of its kind. In the meantime, it has become straightforward to create such malware. In various underground forums, even complete kits are offered to click together the desired functions.
