After months of cryptic secrecy, 2K Games has finally started releasing information about Bioshock 2, one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2009. Set for release on November 3rd, Bioshock 2 looks to offer not only a brand new single-player experience that puts players in the role of the first-ever Big Daddy, but it also will introduce multiplayer action for the first time.
Solo players will return to Rapture as a Big Daddy, ten years after the conclusion of the original Bioshock storyline. The city is in disrepair and disarray and reports of kidnappings of little girls set the stage for a brand new adventure, which promises to reunite players with familiar characters and introduce some frightening new enemies—including the omnipresent Big Sister. As a Big Daddy, players will be able to dual-wield weapons and plasmids and set some gruesome traps for unsuspecting Splicers.
The new Bioshock 2 multiplayer mode of play shifts the Bioshock storyline backwards and inserts players into the civil war that initiated Rapture’s downfall. Players will earn experience points through kills, which will earn the use of various Plasmids and Tonics and vastly upgrade the player’s abilities. Multiplayer maps for Bioshock 2 will include Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites, among other familiar locales. Digital Extremes, the team behind Unreal and Unreal Tournament, is helming Bioshock 2's multiplayer mode development.
The wait to return to Rapture seems long, but with more details arriving by the day, the level of excitement surrounding Bioshock 2 will continue to rise through the summer and into the fall as the November release date draws near. We here at Gaming Front are eagerly looking forward to what this second foray to Rapture holds, so keep checking in for all the latest info, would you kindly?
